Stampede Party Cleanup Calgary | Maid On Time

Stampede Season Is Tough on a House

If you live in Calgary and you host during Stampede, you already know what the place looks like by day ten. Grass tracked in from the yard, barbecue grease on the patio door glass, beer rings on every flat surface, and a bathroom that has seen better days. It happens every July, and it happens fast.

I talk to homeowners in Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere, and Okotoks who love hosting but dread the cleanup. This post is about doing it smart on both ends, before the first guests arrive and after the last ones leave.

Before Stampede: Set the House Up to Survive the Week

A clean starting point makes everything easier to recover. If the house is already carrying a layer of regular grime before guests show up, ten days of Stampede traffic turns it into a real project. A deep cleaning before the week starts is worth it.

What to focus on before guests arrive

  • Kitchen surfaces and appliances. Grease builds on the stovetop, range hood, and backsplash fast once you start cooking for a crowd. Start clean so you are not layering new grease on old grease.
  • Bathrooms. Scrub the toilets, sinks, and floors properly. If you have guests staying over multiple nights, the bathroom takes a beating. A clean start means daily wipe-downs are enough to keep it acceptable.
  • Entry and mudroom. Calgary summers are dusty and July barbecues mean boots coming in and out constantly. Clean the entry floors and mats, and put out a second mat if you have one.
  • Patio and outdoor surfaces. Wipe down the patio furniture, clean the barbecue grates, and sweep the deck. You will be using all of it.
  • Floors throughout. Vacuum and mop everything before day one. It will not stay clean, but at least the baseline is solid.

If you want to hand this prep off, our deep cleaning service covers all of it. We get into the oven, the range hood filters, the grout, and the areas that standard cleaning skips. It is a good option when you know a hard week is coming.

During Stampede: Small Habits That Prevent Big Messes

You do not need to clean the whole house every night. A few small habits keep the mess from compounding.

  • Keep a roll of paper towels and a spray bottle of all-purpose cleaner on the kitchen counter. Wipe spills the same night, not the next morning when they have set.
  • Put a boot tray at the front door. Stampede boots are often muddy or dusty, especially if guests have been to the grounds or any outdoor events.
  • Empty the recycling and garbage bins every two days minimum. A full bin during a party week creates odour problems fast, especially in the heat.
  • Run the dishwasher before you go to bed, not the next morning. You will need it again before noon.
  • Wipe the bathroom sink and toilet seat down each morning. Thirty seconds, but it makes a real difference when multiple people are sharing a bathroom.

After Stampede: The Full Recovery

Once the last guest is gone and the last breakfast scramble is done, you are looking at a house that needs a proper reset. This is where most Calgary homeowners either spend a full weekend cleaning or call us.

The post-Stampede checklist

  • Kitchen deep clean. The range hood, stovetop burners, oven interior, and the area behind and beside the barbecue all need attention. Ten days of cooking for a crowd leaves real buildup.
  • All floors. Vacuum first, including under the couch cushions and along baseboards. Then mop hard floors. High-traffic areas like the entry, kitchen, and hallway will be noticeably darker than the rest.
  • Bathrooms top to bottom. Toilet, sink, shower or tub, floor, and mirror. Do not skip the toilet base or behind the toilet.
  • Windows and glass doors. Fingerprints, nose prints from kids and dogs, and barbecue smoke residue all collect on glass during a busy week.
  • Furniture and upholstery. Vacuum fabric furniture and wipe down leather. Check between and under cushions.
  • Outdoor spaces. The patio, deck, and any outdoor furniture used for entertaining needs a wipe-down before Calgary's July wind turns the leftover grease into a grime layer that is much harder to remove.

Our post-Stampede cleanups fall under our deep cleaning or move-out cleaning depending on what the home needs. We work with homeowners across Calgary, Cochrane, Chestermere, and the surrounding area who want to hand this off entirely rather than lose a weekend to it.

What Affects the Scope of the Cleanup

The size of the home, how many guests you hosted, whether anyone stayed overnight across the full ten days, and the current condition of the house all factor into how much work is involved. We ask a few questions about the home before we give you an exact quote, so nothing is a surprise on either end.

If you hosted a Stampede party this year and the house is still recovering, or if you want to get ahead of it before next July, give us a call or text at (587) 317-4822. We will sort it out.
